Spatial parameters of Late Iron Age settlements in the upper Thukela Valley

Abstract

This paper describes a survey of stone-built settlements in the interior grasslands of Natal. These are examined at the levels of homestead, cluster and settlement within the landscape. Comparisons and contrasts are drawn with the ethnology of Nguni-speaking peoples in the region.
